Malaysia’s Temporary Measures for Reducing the Impact of Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) Act 2020 (the COVID-19 Act)
Temporary Measures for Reducing the Impact of Coronavirus Disease 2019 (Covid-19) Act 2020 has finally been gazetted and came into effect on 23 October 2020. The bill was approved by the Dewan Rakyat and Dewan Negara on August 25 and September 22 respectively. The act will be in effect for two years from the date of its broadcast in the government gazette on October 23 2020, or in accordance with whichever date or duration of enforcement as allocated in any section related to the act.
The purpose of the COVID-19 Act 2020 is to reduce the burden placed, especially on the business community by the COVID-19 Pandemic. It will try and stabilise the economic situation in the country and protect parties who are much affected by the Pandemic. There are many DOs & DON”Ts that the corporate sector has to take into account in light of this new, albeit temporary Laws.
The Temporary Measures for Reducing the Impact of Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) (Extension of Operation) Order 2020, Part II of the COVID-19 Act has been extended for the period from 1 January 2021 to 31 March 2021.
